Ukraine Carousel Jumps Track, Sending Riders Flying; 2 Killed

KIEV, Ukraine — Emergency officials say a carousel jumped off its track and slammed into a pole in eastern Ukraine, killing two people and injuring eight.
Channel 5 TV says the carousel slammed into a supporting pole and sent people flying. Officials say a man in his early 20s and a young woman in her late teens died on the spot. Eight others were hospitalized.
Local authorities say the carousel was put up in the park in Luhansk without official permission.
Accidents in amusement parks are frequent in Ukraine. Safety rules are often neglected and many rides are not properly checked.
