Mission Failed: Hit-and-Run Suspect Shoots Himself With Nail Gun but Goes to Jail Anyway

Tuesday, May 13, 2008

PORT ORCHARD, Wash.  —  A man who shot himself with a concrete nail gun after being stopped by a state trooper near Silverdale is out of the hospital and under arrest.

According to a State Patrol news release, 23-year-old Lance Earl Dillon of Bremerton planned to get his car out of an impound lot once he was released from Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

Instead, he was arrested Friday on old warrants and for investigation of impaired driving, hit-and-run and possession of methamphetamine.

As of midday Tuesday he remained in jail with bail set at $20,000.

Dillon was hospitalized May 1 after shooting himself with a gun equipped with 6-inch nails. He had just been stopped by a trooper in a hit-and-run investigation on State Route 3. A washer kept the nail from hitting his heart.
