Gospel Singer Timothy Wright Still in Critical Condition After Car Crash

Saturday, July 26, 2008

NEW YORK —  A Grammy-nominated gospel singer from New York City remains in critical condition three weeks after a car crash that killed his wife and grandson.

Family members say the Rev. Timothy Wright is conscious and alert but still on a respirator at the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pa.

Relatives say they told the 61-year-old clergyman about his wife's death on Monday. They hope to move him to a rehabilitation facility next week.

Wright's car was hit head-on July 4 by a vehicle going the wrong way on a Pennsylvania highway. The other driver was killed.

The Wrights were returning from a Church of God in Christ conference in Detroit

Wright was nominated for a Grammy award for best traditional soul gospel album for 1994's "Come Thou Almighty King."

He released more than a dozen gospel recordings, including "Jesus, Jesus, Jesus," which came out last year. He is the founder and pastor at Grace Tabernacle Christian Center in Brooklyn.
