Now, they're sharing their love story and how they reconnected.
It's said that absence makes the heart grow fonder — and for Bill Hassinger, 90, and Joanne Blakkan, 92, their hearts also grew in fondness after they reunited for the first time in 73 years.

Hassinger and Blakkan first met on a school bus on their way to their North Muskegon High School in Michigan, as Hassinger told Fox News Digital.

93-YEAR-OLD GRANDMA GOES VIRAL FOR DATING LIFE 'MORE EXCITING' THAN MOST MILLENNIALS

After getting acquainted during their daily commute, Blakken, a junior at the time, started saving a seat for Hassinger, a freshman.

"I was robbing the cradle," she joked.

The pair eventually grew closer.

"[We] became more and more attracted to each other and then the next year was serious," Blakkan said.

FLORIDA WOMAN, 99, GOES VIRAL ON INSTAGRAM AFTER GIVING THIS PIECE OF LIFE ADVICE

"And in those days, you called it ‘going steady,’" she said.

Hassinger took Blakkan to her senior prom in 1949 before she went off to Michigan State to study secretarial science.

"That first term, I would come home occasionally on weekends, and we still would go roller skating or whatever," she continued.

TIKTOK DUO GOES VIRAL FOR THEIR DATING TIPS: 'EXCUSE MY GRANDMA' EXPLORES CHANGING RELATIONSHIP IDEALS

"But, gradually, I met the young man who became my husband and he was dating a young lady in high school — and we [she and Hassinger] just went our separate ways."

They each started new lives with new significant others and never looked back.

Hassinger married a woman a year younger than him six months after the woman's high school graduation, he said.

Three months after tying the knot, he enlisted in the United States Army.

After his time in the military, Hassinger worked for the state police and moved around Michigan with his wife and family for nearly 30 years.

OHIO COUPLE CELEBRATES 100TH BIRTHDAYS, 79 YEARS OF MARRIAGE: 'BEEN A GOOD LIFE'

He was married to his wife for 68 years before she died.

The couple had three children — two boys, who died when they were young, and a girl, Hassinger said.

Blakkan also found love and got married two years into college.

She started working while her husband finished his education.

"In later years, I completed my degree at Eastern Michigan University when I was in my 50s, because all three of my children had college degrees by that time, and I felt like I was being left in the dust," Blakkan said.

UK GRANDMOTHER LIVES OVER 100 YEARS, SHARES KEY TO LONG LIFE: HERE’S HER UNIQUE SECRET

She and her husband had three children together. The lawsuit is the latest escalation in a months-long feud between Gotion and Green Charter officials who have pumped the brakes on the company's proposed project within the town's jurisdiction.

"We are saddened and disappointed by their decision to proceed in this direction," Green Charter Supervisor Jason Kruse told Fox News Digital in a written statement.

"As Township Supervisor, my number one concern is protecting the interests of the people of Green Charter Township, and we will vigorously defend our township’s position in this matter," Kruse added. "We might be a small community, but we refuse to be bullied."

BIDEN ADMIN GREEN-LIGHTS CHINESE EV BATTERY FACTORY IN MICHIGAN, DESPITE LOCAL OPPOSITION

According to the lawsuit, Kruse and other elected Green Charter leaders have pursued unlawful actions against the company and are "motivated by clear anti-Gotion animus." Gotion asked the court to reinstate permits canceled by the township, thereby allowing its battery project to move forward, and further filed a motion for preliminary injunction, requesting that the court intervene quickly.

"It’s unfortunate that Gotion has had to resort to litigation to get the township to comply with their obligations under the agreement," Chuck Thelen, Gotion’s vice president of North American operations, said in a statement shared with Fox News Digital. "We’re unable to comment further since this is now an ongoing legal matter."

NRSC AD PUTS DEM REP ON BLAST FOR SIGNING HUSH AGREEMENT INVOLVING CCP-TIED COMPANY

The issue dates back to October 2022, when Democratic Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced Gotion would invest $2.4 billion to construct two large production plants along with other supporting facilities spanning 260 acres in Green Charter, which is located in northwestern Michigan. Whitmer said the project would shore up Michigan's status as the "global hub of mobility and electrification."

Under the economic development package awarded to Gotion, the company is set to receive $175 million in taxpayer-funded incentives and more than $500 million in tax incentives.

However, the project has generated substantial local uproar, with residents repeatedly expressing concern about Gotion's ties to China and calling on the Whitmer administration to cancel the project. For example, the projects' opponents have noted Gotion High-Tech's corporate bylaws require the company to "carry out Party activities in accordance with the Constitution of the Communist Party of China."

In addition, Gotion High-Tech hosted multiple company trips in 2021 to CCP revolutionary memorials in Anhui Province, China. During the trips, Gotion High-Tech workers wore Red Army outfits and pledged to "fight for communism to the end of my life."

ALABAMA REJECTED CCP-TIED EV COMPANY'S PROJECT THAT BLUE STATES EVENTUALLY GREEN-LIT

On Dec. 13, 2022, Green Charter Township approved a resolution in support of Gotion's project. Months later, in August 2023, the township authorized then-Supervisor James Chapman to privately negotiate the terms of a development agreement with Gotion, that is required to approve certain infrastructure at the site of the project.

That agreement was executed between Gotion and Green Charter on Oct. 10, 2023.

But, while the town pursued the agreement and negotiations with Gotion, local residents simultaneously organized a recall effort that proved successful in early November 2023. Every member of the town board, including Chapman, was ousted. After Kruse and the other new members of the board took office, they immediately rescinded the October development agreement.

"The Development Agreement was and remains a legally binding agreement between Gotion and the Township," Gotion's federal lawsuit states.

HOUSE CCP PANEL PROBES BIDEN ADMIN OVER CHINESE GREEN ENERGY PROJECT ON US SOIL

After the lawsuit was filed, meanwhile, Gotion was blasted by former U.S. Ambassadors Peter Hoekstra and Joseph Cella, who have led opposition to the company's plans over national security concerns. Last year, the pair founded the Michigan-China Economic and Security Review Group, a watchdog group devoted to reviewing Chinese economic investments across the country with a particular focus on Michigan.

"PRC-based and CCP-tied Gotion continues to carry on every bit the way a company based in authoritarian Communist China would – in secrecy, heavy handedness, above the law operations, and reckless disregard for the environment," they said in a joint statement Monday. "Gotion, a $40 billion company, does not like the fact five elected officials who rolled over for them were recalled, and now they are suing over alleged 'breach of contract' to get the results they want, contrary to the will of the people."

"These are every day citizens from both sides of the aisle in Green Township that are fighting this," they added. "They are simply seeking to de-risk from this type of subnational incursion from Gotion that our national security and intelligence operations have warned present a national security threat, and preserve their pristine natural surroundings, water, and habitats. This is precisely why every day hard working Americans distrust government and business elites."

Former CIA Directors Leon Panetta and Mike Pompeo have also raised the alarm on the project.

Gov. "William broods. He simmers. Then, like his father, he blows. … He’s trying to protect his wife’s privacy. He’s always had a grudge against the media, and he is even less likely than his father to feel the need to explain anything. William still blames the press for [his mother’s] death, and for all his outward charm and natural flair for diplomacy, he continues to view reporters as little more than jackals."

KATE MIDDLETON, PRINCE WILLIAM BELIEVE THEY 'HAVE NOTHING TO PROVE' WHEN IT COMES TO PRINCESS'S HEALTH: EXPERT

"He has no interest in feeding them unless he has to, especially when the issue is Kate’s health," he added.

In January, Kensington Palace announced that the Princess of Wales had unspecified abdominal surgery and would be out of sight for weeks. The news quickly triggered much speculation and gossip about her health. However, an admission from the 42-year-old that she altered an official family photo – one that was supposed to reassure the public that she was doing well – made things worse.

It’s a rare misstep for the princess, who has hardly put a foot wrong in her journey from William’s shy "commoner" girlfriend to the glamorous young mother of three who, more than any royal since Princess Diana, boosted the popularity and appeal of the British monarchy worldwide.

"William is under so much strain, and he is livid about what is being written and said about his ailing wife," Andersen said. "… The Prince of Wales has had his own clashes with Kensington Palace staffers about how clumsily they’ve handled things. Fists have been slammed on tables and angry emails have been sent. There has been a flurry of finger-pointing, although William is more about solutions than assigning blame."

"In the midst of all this, William is overwhelmed with having to shoulder such a heavy load while his father battles cancer, and that means little time for self-indulgent tantrums of the sort that the king was famous for," Andersen said. "Still, William is bound to crack. It’s only a matter of time. Heads will roll; of that I am certain."

It was also in January that Buckingham Palace announced that the king, 75, had been diagnosed with cancer. The type of cancer has not been revealed. It is not prostate cancer, but the disease was discovered during his recent treatment for an enlarged prostate. He has been seeking treatment.

CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR THE ENTERTAINMENT NEWSLETTER

"William is under an enormous amount of pressure as he tries to take up much of the slack left by his father and his wife," Andersen said. "… Charles is clearly in a physically weakened and emotionally fragile state – the outpouring of concern for the king has brought him to tears. But the palace has bungled things badly; the king knows that better than anyone. As far as the monarchy is concerned, this has been nothing less than an epic PR fail. There have been tense moments and raised voices as staffers try to figure out how to restore the public’s trust in the monarchy post-Queen Elizabeth II. But short of the king himself coming clean about his medical condition, as well as Kate’s, the rumor mills will continue to churn furiously."

Andersen said William’s priority is protecting his wife’s privacy. The princess has rarely been photographed during her recovery.

And unlike his father, William is less likely "to feel the need to explain anything," Andersen said. He also noted that the 41-year-old holds a grudge against the U.K. press.

His mother, Diana, died in 1997 from injuries she sustained in a Paris car crash. She was 36. At the time, Diana was being chased by paparazzi.

"The king and William have a deeply rooted antipathy toward the press," Andersen said. "Faced with something personal and as serious as a medical issue, it’s understandable that father and son would be inclined to tell the tabloids to go to hell. Behind the scenes, they argue that it’s none of the press’s business, that such matters are not for public consumption."

"In the past, the palace could count on the press to back off, in exchange for future access," Andersen said. "But that arrangement can only go so far. You can’t have the king and the Princess of Wales both hospitalized at the same time only then to vanish for months without any plausible explanation as to why. … The public will be solidly in their corner, but first, they are entitled to know at least the broad outlines of what’s really going on behind palace walls. Instead, this curtain of secrecy we are only allowed to peer behind now and then is creating suspicion, resentment and no small amount of hysteria in the media."

Like William, Charles’ alleged temper is well-known within the palace, Andersen said. He chronicled alleged past incidents in his book. At the time of the book’s publication in 2022, a spokesperson for Buckingham Palace didn’t immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment. However, a palace source previously told Fox News Digital that "we don’t comment on such books."

"King Charles has always had a Vesuvian temper. His tantrums and angry outbursts are legendary," Andersen said. "He may be in a weakened condition as he undergoes cancer treatment, but remember that in the past he tore the sink off a bathroom wall in a fit of rage – twice. … During an argument with Diana, the then-Prince of Wales hurled a heavy wooden boot jack at her, missing her head by inches. On other occasions, he’s thrown objects at servants. … Once at a friend’s villa, Charles became so frustrated with a stuck bedroom window that he tossed a chair through it to ‘get some fresh air.’"

"… [His wife, Queen] Camilla has always been a calming influence, and since he became king, Charles has mellowed considerably," Andersen continued. "That doesn’t mean he’s lost his edge entirely, by any means. When he is displeased by something, he lets his staff know it in no uncertain terms. They feel the royal heat."

Andersen noted that William has "exploded" at his younger brother, Prince Harry, which the Duke of Sussex wrote about in his 2023 memoir, "Spare."

In the book, Harry alleged that during an argument in 2019, William called his wife, Meghan Markle, "difficult" and "rude" and then grabbed him by the collar and knocked him down. Harry suffered cuts and bruises from landing on a dog bowl. Harry said that Charles implored the brothers to make up. Following the funeral of Charles’ father, Prince Philip, in 2021, the king pleaded, "Please, boys, don’t make my final years a misery."

LIKE WHAT YOU’RE READING? "They are not amused with the way things are going. They have made it clear to their staff in window-rattling terms."

Kensington Palace previously announced that the Princess of Wales is expected to return to public duties sometime after Easter.
a655549c-62fe-5416-bfea-d649aacd2896 fnc Fox News fox-news/world/personalities/kate fox-news/world/personalities/will fox-news/person/king-charles-iii fox-news/world/personalities/british-royals fox-news/topic/royals fox-news/entertainment fox-news/entertainment article Tue, 19 Mar 2024 04:00:50 -0400 https://www.foxnews.com/politics/california-cant-keep-up-climate-mandates-triple-rate-emissions-reduction-report https://www.foxnews.com/politics/california-cant-keep-up-climate-mandates-triple-rate-emissions-reduction-report Newsom’s office dismisses report saying California not on pace to meet 2030 emissions mandate California is falling behind on its ambitious climate change goals, according to a new report from an L.A.-based economic research firm.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom's office is dismissing a new report saying the Golden State will fail to meet its climate change mandates unless it nearly triples its rate of reduction of greenhouse gases through 2030.

The analysis by Beacon Economics, an L.A.-based economic research firm, found that California’s emissions of carbon dioxide, methane and other gases rose by 3.4% in 2021, after they had dropped during the pandemic. The increase puts California further behind in reaching its required regulation under state law of 40% fewer emissions in 2030 than in 1990.

"The cost of getting the state back on pace would depend on what approach we take," lead researcher Stafford Nichols told Fox News Digital. "Some strategies are cheaper than others. We could make changes to the regulatory frameworks of California to encourage and enable the adoption of new technologies."

BIDEN ADMIN AIMS TO PUSH TOWNS, CITIES TO ADOPT GREEN ENERGY BUILDING CODES: 'VERY SUSPICIOUS'

"However, sometimes politics gets in the way of this decision-making framework, and politicians do not always choose the most efficient strategies," he added.

California's regulatory plan championed by Gov. Gavin Newsom to ban new gas-powered vehicles more than a decade from now is aimed at protecting public health by reducing the amount of particulate matter — like dust, dirt and soot — that's in the air.

But not all experts agree with the state's push for what's termed "clean energy," which is energy from renewable sources to generate solar, wind, water, geothermal and bioenergy.

Ronald Stein, energy consultant at the nonprofit Heartland Institute, told Fox News Digital in an interview that California's movement for clean energy is "increasing emissions around the world."

17 RETIRED MILITARY OFFICIALS RAISE ALARM ON BIDEN'S ELECTRIC VEHICLE PUSH

"Because what we're doing is we're basically delegating it to other countries that are providing all the products back to California, and they have no environmental or labor controls," Stein said. "We keep shutting down our gas-powered plants, and now California imports more electricity than any other state."

He added, "We have a demand, our neighbors have a supply."

According to the economic firm's analysis, a significant amount of emissions, amounting to more than 100 million metric tons annually, would have to be eliminated for California to meet its own goal. Other operations, many of them left-leaning, cherry-picked quotes to make Trump look as awful as possible, while ignoring the reasonable-sounding things he said.

A classic example was when I asked the former president about the murder of Alexei Navalny in a Siberian prison camp. I thought he might duck because of his friendly relationship with Vladimir Putin.

But I put it to him point-blank: Is the Russian dictator responsible for the death of the opposition leader?

TRUMP: IF YOU’RE GOING TO BAN TIKTOK, BAN FACEBOOK TOO

"Perhaps," Trump said. "I mean, possibly, I could say probably. I don't know. He's a young man, so statistically he'd be alive for a long time…Certainly that would look like something very bad happened."

Keep in mind that Trump has never even mentioned Putin in the same paragraph as Navalny, and now he’s saying "probably" responsible. Of course, Trump can’t prove it, and neither can I.

Here are some of the headlines:

"Trump Couldn’t Bring Himself to Condemn Putin for Alexei Navalny’s Death."

"Trump Delivers Head-Spinningly Awkward Answer to New Question About Putin."

"Trump: ‘I Don’t Know’ If Putin Was Responsible for Navalny’s Death."

You get the idea.

Which brings us to Trump’s rhetoric. I asked why he uses words like "vermin" and "poisoning of the blood" to describe illegal migrants – especially since the press says such language was used by Hitler and Mussolini.

Trump says he didn’t know that and then repeated "our country is being poisoned" – prompting a wave of headlines that he had doubled down on such harmful language.

TRUMP: BIDEN IS ‘BAD FOR ISRAEL’

I guess you could say that – and I’m not letting him off the hook – but the more telling part of his answer came next.

I asked the 45th president whether he uses "over the top" and "inflammatory" language to drive the media debate, meaning a focus on his words gets news outlets spending days on his turf, on his preferred issue, in the arguments over whether he went too far. And Trump didn’t deny it, saying he wouldn’t limit himself to "politically correct" verbiage.

"It also gets people thinking about very important issues," he said. "That if you don't use certain rhetoric, if you don't use certain words that maybe are not very nice words, nothing will happen." My theory, based on decades of observing him, was correct.

Then he went off on migrants coming from insane asylums and how crime will double – neither of which has been shown to be true on a major scale.

The same was true with NATO, when Trump caused a global uproar by saying he’d encourage the Russians to "do whatever the hell they want" to NATO countries that don’t pay their fair share of defense costs.

That sounds like someone taking a pro-Putin stance, I said.

"It sounds like somebody that wants to get people to pay money," Trump said. In other words, it was a negotiating tactic.

Half an hour before airtime, the media were awash in headlines about Trump saying there would be a "bloodbath" if he lost the election. So I watched that portion of his speech at an Ohio rally the night before.

There have been times when Trump used loaded words to signal the possibility of political violence. This wasn’t one of them.

TRUMP: I’LL DEBATE BIDEN ‘ANYTIME, ANYPLACE’

Trump was going on about Chinese cars and their impact on the American auto industry. Then he said if he wasn’t elected there would be a bloodbath – in terms of the impact on jobs. Then he went right back to talking about electric vehicles and industry competition.

Now some pundits said the mere use of the word bloodbath was like a bat signal, telling his supporters to get ready for violence. After all, he was so Machiavellian that he added, "That’s going to be the least of it." But as I said, too many outlets were so in love with the bloodbath story that they wrenched it out of context.

Trump also said at the rally that some migrants were "animals" and "not people." That’s unacceptable language, in my view, but remember what he said about inflammatory words driving the media debate. I wanted to decode his approach for viewers.

Trump also made news on abortion. I asked him about a Times story that said he is discussing with advisers a national ban after 16 weeks of pregnancy – not knowing his campaign had dismissed it as fake news – and figured he’d dismiss the story.

Nope. He essentially confirmed the 16-week story – saying he’d make a decision "pretty soon," which would obviously be in that range – that had previously been attributed to unnamed sources. He said, despite my skepticism, that he wants to "make both sides happy."

When Republicans grapple with abortion in the post-Roe world, Trump said, "you have to go with your heart. But beyond that, you also have to get elected." He said that opposing the three exceptions – rape, incest, life of the mother – caused Pennsylvania Republican Doug Mastriano to lose the governor’s race in a landslide.

Then Trump went off on the Democrats and late-term abortions – which I said in one of several fact-checks are exceedingly rare.

He also made news on subjects ranging from Israel to TikTok.

The first time I met Donald Trump was in 1987, in New York, when he was promoting his first book "The Art of the Deal."

And this, unprompted, is what he said to me:

"When I go up to New Hampshire – I'm not running for president, by the way – I got the best crowd, the best of everything in terms of reception. The politicians go up and get a moderate audience. I go up and they're scalping tickets. You heard that? They're scalping tickets. Why? Because people don't want to be ripped off, and this country is being ripped off. I think if I ran, I'd win."

CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP

I confess I did not then envision Trump, still a largely local real estate guy, in the White House, but now he’s going to head the Republican ticket for the third straight time.
6919c5c9-c0f1-55fd-9251-5535c7487a11 fnc Fox News fox-news/columns/media-buzz fox-news/politics fox-news/person/donald-trump fox-news/media fox-news/person/joe-biden fox-news/us/immigration/illegal-immigrants fox-news/us fox-news/politics/elections fox-news/world/personalities/vladimir-putin fox-news/politics article Tue, 19 Mar 2024 03:00:06 -0400 https://www.foxnews.com/opinion/greg-gutfeld-deliberate-hoax-machine-doing-what-does-best https://www.foxnews.com/opinion/greg-gutfeld-deliberate-hoax-machine-doing-what-does-best GREG GUTFELD: The deliberate hoax machine is doing what it does best 'Gutfeld!' panelists discuss the context surrounding former President Trump's use of the word 'bloodbath.'
Happy Monday. What a glorious Monday. More like fun day. So, President Biden is wearing new sneakers that are designed to prevent him from falling. Here's the prototype. And this is exciting. They're also working on a shoe that will keep Kamala from talking. Meanwhile, the president is bracing for a huge national security threat as gangs flee a violent torn Haiti. Joe's already gathered a force to repel them. Just days ago, the president was seen confused and feeble as staffers ushered him inside as it began to rain during an event, saying it's hard enough to keep his pants dry when he's indoors. The country of Niger has announced an end to their military relationship with the United States.

Don't expect Biden to comment on the matter. His staff is terrified he'll mispronounce the name. Two-thirds of U.S. adults would rather skip the movie theaters and watch new flicks at home on streaming. That way, women can look at their phones throughout the movie and then force you to rewind it 13 times to find out what happened. You all do that. On Friday, Vice President Kamala Harris and rapper Fat Joe met to discuss easing marijuana penalties. Next up, she'll be discussing global warming with Vanilla Ice. According to a new study, woke people are more unhappy, anxious and depressed. Or it could be the reverse: unhappy, anxious and depressed people are more woke. Either way, they're ugly. Pet rocks, which were a fad in the 1970s, are making a comeback in South Korea. Like the classic toy, the rocks will be packaged in cardboard boxes but be called "The Biden." The CEO of Hertz has resigned following the company's bet on electric vehicles went bust. So, they're bringing in a new boss to slash prices.

PICTURE OF OJ SIMPSON

Old enough to remember that. A second man has been charged with the 2005 theft of a pair of ruby slippers Judy Garland wore in "The Wizard of Oz." And I'm thinking, come on, there has to be an easier way to tell your family you're gay. Reports allege that the tiny Arab state of Qatar apparently considered expelling Hamas leadership. No word yet whether Harvard will do the same thing. Sixty percent of likely voters oppose Biden's secretive flights that have transported 300,000 illegal immigrants across the nation. Some oppose it because it's cruel and unusual to make illegal immigrants fly United. A woman who identifies as a dog made headlines after appearing on an Australian radio show. That's nothing. In America, we have five dogs that identify as women on a TV show.

PICTURE OF THE LADIES ON THE VIEW

Terrible. How dare you applaud!

All right, to the monologue. Bad news, everyone. Jesse Watters is dead ...set against appearing on this show until his book is out. Which means... You've been hoaxed! Yes, it's time for "You've been hoaxed," where the reporting is as legit as the padding in Dylan Mulvaney's bra. It's the media's playbook written by their coaches on the left. First, they lie, then they attack you for saying it's a lie. Then they say it may be false, but it still fits a pattern of other lies they believe to be true. Which is how we got this weekend's bloodbath of a bloodbath. The media claimed Trump predicts a "bloodbath" if he loses. Of course, leaving out that Trump was referring to the automotive industry if Biden's policies continue. True, the media hit the context like a microphone I hide in a construction worker's porta-potty.

I told you that was a bad joke. Here's what Trump actually said.

DONALD TRUMP: Let me tell you something, to China, if you're listening, President Xi, and you and I are friends, but he understands the way I deal. Those big monster car manufacturing plants that you're building in Mexico right now, and you think you're going to get that, you're going to not hire Americans and you're going to sell the cars to us. Now, we're going to put a 100% tariff on every single car that comes across the line, and you're not going to be able to sell those guys if I get elected. Now, if I don't get elected, it's going to be a bloodbath for the whole... That's going to be the least of it. It's going to be a bloodbath for the country. That'll be the least of it.

CONSERVATIVES FUME THAT TRUMP'S ‘BLOODBATH’ COMMENT IS TAKEN OUT OF CONTEXT: ‘DECEPTIVE’ HEADLINES

"The least of it." So there you go. Clearly, Trump's "bloodbath" referred to the impact of Chinese and Mexican imports on our auto industry. Trump's not suggesting anyone will bathe in blood. Even Pelosi, who actually bathes in blood to keep her figure. But Trump's actual words make this New York Times headline about as accurate as Stevie Wonder playing cornhole. "Bloodbath," really? Once again, it's the media whores who pretend to misunderstand metaphors. Truth is, of course, it's just a deliberate hoax machine doing what it does best; taking something out of context, creating a story around it, and trusting their media pals to amplify it. And a whole host of other media hacks did while assuming you're too dumb to notice. Here's Nancy Pelosi at ground zero for hoaxes, CNN.

NANCY PELOSI: We just have to win this election because he's even predicting a bloodbath. What does that mean? He's going to exact a bloodbath? There's something wrong here. How respectful I am of the American people and their goodness but how much more do they have to see from him to understand that this isn't what our country is about?

That was scary. Thought I was watching the latest version of Faces of Death. Talk about hard-hitting questions. You rarely see that many softballs tossed outside of a lesbian barbecue. Hey, Dana, bat your eyes or something next time so we know that you're alive. But like most Trump hoaxes, this one stood up to scrutiny as well as Jesse's hair in a wind tunnel. He looks pretty good bald. So why is that? Well, we've changed. We've learned that the media cannot be trusted. We know to check their work since they won't do it themselves. It wasn't always this way. Remember the "fine people" hoax? Everyone fell for it, including Fox. But thanks to some of us and others outside this network who doggedly exposed that hoax and many others, Americans are now smarter and savvier about the hoax makers.

PELOSI SUGGESTS TRUMP MEANT HE WILL ‘EXACT A BLOODBATH’ IF HE DOESN'T WIN AFTER RALLY STATEMENTS

We suspect all stories like this and question them in search for context. This didn't used to happen. Now it does. And props to Elon Musk's X. Under the old regime, this would have been labeled fact before we even got out of bed. But now, with the full context out there, the hoaxers had to change track. It doesn't matter that it's out of context, we're told, Trump is capable of anything. Right. Which is Democrat for crap, let's cover our smelly a**es. No, you jerks, you were caught again. These people are like smash and grabbers who forget the getaway car and commit the crime, but are left holding the case of men and speed sticks. So now you see the media shift from it not being true to, but it's true in the context of the other hoaxes. True, the hoax is based on other hoaxes. For you to believe that Trump meant a literal bloodbath, you needed to believe in the fine people hoax, the Jussie Smollett hoax, the drinking bleach hoax, and so on. It's like saying you should believe in the Easter Bunny because there's the Tooth Fairy. But while we watch the hoax implode on impact, Dems are still protected in a hoax bubble. They're as immune to the truth as Hunter is to penicillin. But maybe it's Trump's own fault. I mean, he's so over the top. The Democrat media would never use a term like "bloodbath," would they?

MONTAGE OF THE MEDIA SAYING THE WORD "BLOODBATH": Politico.com reports tonight on the 'bloodbath' at the RNC. Joe Biden was just talking the other day about, you know, his concerns about a negative 'bloodbath.' And the headline refers to it as an impending 'bloodbath.' Elections may not be the 'bloodbath' for Democrats. This is probably going to be a 'bloodbath.' It would be a 'bloodbath.' 'Bloodbath' at the ballot box.

I think shrinks call that projection, which may be why you feel like projectile vomiting right now. So how do they think they can still get away with this? Are they that stupid, delusional, or just plain lazy? Please don't make us choose. The reason they're sweating harder than Judge Jeanine going through an airport metal detector is they know we're on to them. We're not falling for it anymore. The media's goal is not to provide information, it's to persuade and use whatever means necessary to get you to fall in line. Rice, now 30, months after a federal judge found the defense lawyer at his 2013 trial deficient and the evidence "slender." Rice had been serving a 30- to 60-year prison term until he was released amid the federal court ruling late last year.

The case was formally dismissed Monday after District Attorney Larry Krasner decided not to retry it. While he said most of the 45 exonerations his office has championed have been more clearcut cases of innocence, he found a new look at the evidence in Rice's case more nuanced.

SEVERELY DECOMPOSED BODY OF UNIDENTIFIED TODDLER FOUND INSIDE DUFFEL BAG IN WEST PHILADELPHIA: POLICE

"The case falls within that 15% or so (of exoneration cases) where we believe it's murky," Krasner said at a press conference where he was joined by defense lawyers who pushed back on that view.

The reversal hinged on a few key points. A surgeon testified that Rice could not have been the person seen running from the scene because Rice had been seriously injured in a shooting three weeks earlier that fractured his pelvis.

Rice was shot on Sept. 3, 2011, in what he described as a case of mistaken identity. His trial lawyer, now deceased, agreed to stipulate that one of the Sept. 25, 2011, shooting victims was a potential suspect in Rice’s shooting — giving prosecutors a motive — even though there was little evidence of that.

"The evidence of (his) guilt was slender. Only one of the four victims was able to identify him and she admitted that the last time she had seen (him) was at least four years before the shooting. No weapon was ever recovered," U.S. Magistrate Judge Carol Sandra Moore Wells wrote in her October report.

Rice left prison in December, but did not attend Monday’s court hearing. Weeks of winter storms have badly eroded beaches in the northern section of town, leaving little if any sand on which to play during all but the lowest tides.

Executives with the three northernmost casinos: the Ocean Casino Resort, Resorts and Hard Rock, are pressing the federal and state governments to expedite a beach replenishment project that was supposed to have been done last year.

ONLINE GAMBLING REVENUE SKYROCKETS IN ATLANTIC CITY, WHILE IN-PERSON SLUMP CONTINUES

But under the current best-case scenario, new sand won't be hitting the beaches until late summer, according to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the agency that oversees such projects.

And that has the casinos concerned about not having an essential element of their tourism appeal. Atlantic City has long said its beaches set it apart from the plentiful gambling options elsewhere in the region and the country. Without them, it could be a harder sell in attracting tourists and gamblers.

"One of the highlights of coming to Atlantic City has always been the beaches and the Boardwalk," said Mike Sampson, general manager of the Hard Rock casino. "It's going to be a challenge."

Hard Rock lost its popular beach bar to repeated winter storms.

"It was totally destroyed," Sampson said. "Parts of it washed out to sea; debris remained on the beach and had to be disposed of."

He said Hard Rock is hopeful it can still rent out beach cabanas and umbrellas this summer, albeit on a smaller beach.

Sampson said that "unless someone can intervene, it's probably going to be a post-summer fill."

Anything that might make people less likely to come to Atlantic City is bad news for the gambling resort, which still has not recovered from the COVID-19 outbreak. Only three of the nine casinos are winning more money from in-person gamblers than they did in 2019 before the pandemic hit.

And while internet gambling and sports betting has added new revenue streams to the equation, that money must be shared with partners such as tech platforms and sports books, and is not solely for the casinos to keep. That is why the casinos consider money won from in-person gamblers to be their core business — and why they need usable beaches.

Last summer, the Ocean Casino spent $600,000 to truck in and dump sand on its beach, which was not in as bad a shape as it is this year.

"How do you run a beach resort without a beach?" asked Bill Callahan, Ocean's general manager. "It's a tough pill to swallow."

And an expensive one: that sand quickly washed away, and even less is left there now. At high tide, the ocean waves lap up against the dune, which itself is badly eroded.

"By the end of summer, all that sand was gone," said Ian Jerome, project director for Ocean's effort last year. "That is not a sustainable option."

Of the dozen beach entrances spanning the three casinos, only two are accessible, he said. The rest just dead-end in mid-air, with treacherous drop-offs that could cause serious injury — or worse — should anyone fall from them.

Atlantic City last received beach replenishment in 2020, and was due for additional sand last summer. But Congress failed to approve funding for the project then.

This year, $25 million in federal funding is available toward the $30 million cost, of which the state pays a smaller percentage.

But the government contracting process does not lend itself to quick fixes. Stephen Rochette, a spokesman for the Army Corps, said a contract for the work will be put out to bid in April or May, with the work starting "sometime this summer or in the fall."

He said the agency is aware of the tendency of Atlantic City's northern beaches to erode at a more rapid rate than other ones, and is studying the situation to see if any engineering improvements can be added to the eventual project design.

Mark Giannantonio, president of Resorts casino and of the Casino Association of New Jersey, said the casinos want at least some of the project to be carried out in early summer — what he called a possible "beach-lite" option.

"Everyone realizes the importance of getting this sand," he said. "The sense of urgency is real."
2527996d-516e-5037-bc55-80c72128f789 fnc Fox News fox-news/us/us-regions/northeast/new-jersey fox-news/topic/associated-press fox-news/us/new-jersey-shore-atlantic-city fox-news/us/us-regions/northeast fox-news/politics/state-and-local fox-news/travel fox-news/weather fox-news/us article Mon, 18 Mar 2024 20:47:33 -0400 https://www.foxnews.com/world/pentagon-looks-keep-troops-niger-junta-orders-departure https://www.foxnews.com/world/pentagon-looks-keep-troops-niger-junta-orders-departure Pentagon looks to keep troops in Niger as junta orders departure The Pentagon is attempting to broker a deal with Niger's military government to keep U.S. troops in the West African nation for counterterrorism operations.
The Pentagon is working with Niger officials, seeking a way for U.S. troops to stay in the country — a key base for counterterrorism operations in sub-Saharan Africa — following a weekend directive that they leave.

Last week a high level-delegation of U.S. officials, including Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Molly Phee, Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs Celeste Wallander and the head of U.S. Africa Command Gen. Meanwhile, Insa Garba Saidou, a local activist who assists Niger’s military rulers with their communications, criticized U.S. efforts to force the junta to pick between strategic partners.

"The American bases and civilian personnel cannot stay on Nigerien soil any longer," he told The Associated Press.

Singh said the U.S. was aware of the March 16 statement "announcing the end of the status of forces agreement between Niger and the United States. We are working through diplomatic channels to seek clarification. These are ongoing discussions and we don't have more to share at this time."

State Department spokesman Vedant Patel said the discussions were prompted by Niger's "trajectory."

"We are in touch with transition authorities to seek clarification of their comments and discuss additional next steps," Patel said.

The junta has largely been in control in Niger since July when mutinous soldiers ousted the country’s democratically elected president and months later asked French forces to leave.

The U.S. military still had some 650 troops working in Niger in December, largely consolidated at a base farther away from Niamey, Niger's capital. Singh said the total number of personnel still in country, including civilians and contractors, is roughly 1,000.

The Niger base is critical for U.S. counterterrorism operations in the Sahel and has been used for both manned and unmanned surveillance operations, although Singh said the only drone flights being currently conducted are for force protection.

In the Sahel the U.S. has also supported local ground troops, including accompanying them on missions. However, such accompanied missions have been scaled back since U.S. troops were killed in a joint operation in Niger in 2017.
0b9d9a1e-ec3e-59ff-aa36-01b789d44b81 fnc Fox News fox-news/world/world-regions/africa fox-news/topic/associated-press fox-news/politics/defense fox-news/world/conflicts fox-news/politics/defense/pentagon fox-news/world/world-politics fox-news/world article Mon, 18 Mar 2024 20:45:50 -0400 https://www.foxnews.com/sports/510-jerseys-150-caps-ohtani-merch-sells-sky-high-prices-japan https://www.foxnews.com/sports/510-jerseys-150-caps-ohtani-merch-sells-sky-high-prices-japan $510 for jerseys, $150 for caps: Ohtani merch sells at sky-high prices in his native Japan Merchandise for Los Angeles baseball superstar Shohei Ohtani regularly sells for exorbitant prices in his native Japan, with Dodgers gear quickly replacing its Angels counterparts.
Mai Fukuo was gift-shopping for a friend. Hideki Chiba was in the same sports store in the Shinjuku area of Tokyo looking for something for his father-in-law.

They each picked up items in blue — Los Angeles Dodgers Blue, of course. This reflects the color revolution that's evident all over Tokyo in the last few months since Shohei Ohtani moved from the Los Angeles Angels — base color, red — to sign a $700-million, 10-year contract with the Dodgers.

Angels caps have almost vanished in Tokyo. A Dodgers lid is the fashion item — a bit like designer-label goods.

DODGERS' SHOHEI OHTANI OPENS UP ABOUT MARRIAGE TO 'NORMAL JAPANESE WOMAN'

"Ohtani just changed our store," said Takuto Yamashita, a part-time worker at a shop called Selection, which boasts Japan's largest array of MLB gear for all 30 teams, and the 12 Japanese pro teams, too.

But there's one team that matters more than the rest in Japan. And only one player, which is why the Dodgers invested so heavily in Ohtani; not just for his pitching and hitting, but for his celebrity status to market the Dodgers as Japan's team.

"The place is completely different. It went from all red to to all blue," Yamashita added. "Without Ohtani in these last few months, the sales in this store would be so different."

Fukuo eyed a traditional white jersey with "Dodgers" in script across the front. She lifted it off the rack — a quilt of Dodgers and Ohtani garb — and admired it for looks, size and texture.

"I'm thinking of buy this t-shirt for my co-worker because Ohtani is very famous — of course in Japan — and also all over the world," she explained. "He likes baseball and he likes Ohtani so I'm thinking of this."

In another shopping aisle, Chiba dropped a traditional Dodgers cap into his hand-held shopping basket.

"He (Ohtani) is like a hero to us, at least to me as a baseball fan," Chiba said. "Everybody knows him, even if they are not baseball fans. To me, he’s a Japanese icon. I think people expected him to be a good player, but he is more than anyone expected."

Store manager Hayato Daido estimated that 60% of the sales come from Dodgers gear, or Ohtani specific t-shirts, jerseys, key chains, etc. Assistant store manager Takato Suzuki suggested it might be as high as 70%. Daido said about 10% of sales were linked to local teams like the Tokyo Giants.

Daido said Ohtani-related sales are "four or five times" more than they were prior to the Dodgers announcing in December they'd signed him. He said gear has yet to arrive for Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who joined the Dodgers on a $325-million, 12-year contract — reported to be the highest in money and longest in duration for any pitcher.

"There is no doubt there will be demand for it," Daido said. "We're just waiting."

Surprisingly, what's still selling are Ohtani caps and jerseys from his six years with the Angels.

"That's because they are not being produced any more and have become collector's items," Suzuki, the assistant manager, said.

The store resembles a museum to Ohtani, filled with posters, memorabilia and "Sho-time" emblazoned on myriad items. A few Ichiro Suzuki shirts hang for sale, reminders of the certain first-ballot Hall of Famer.

Shirts with Ohtani's dog are a big item — Dekopin in Japanese, but known as Decoy in English. The next big seller could be anything related to his surprise marriage.

Being an Ohtani fan comes with a price — and it can be steep. The ordinary Dodgers cap, like other MLB caps, sells for about 6,300 yen — about $42.

However, Ohtani-specific items are much higher. A traditional blue Dodgers cap with the interlocking LA on the front, which also features No. 17 on the side and a replica of Ohtani's signature goes for 22,400 yen — about $150.

If you want a baseball that Ohtani threw in a game on April 27, 2023 — brace yourself. The price tag is a whopping 3.3 millon yen — about $22,000. An Ohtani-used glove sells for almost 2 million yen — $13,400.

Taiwanese Torben Lin offered a contrarian view. In town shopping, his interest was in buying a Masataka Yoshida jersey, the Japanese outfielder who wears No. 7 for the Boston Red Sox. He bypassed the Ohtani gear — intentionally.

"Ohtani is a good player. He’s really good," Lin said. "He has two or three skills. But to be honest, I think he’s not perfect. You know, it’s not like we all need to buy his stuff. His souvenirs. His shirts. I think we need to support other players."

That perspective didn't deter Hina Kishi. She works as a waitress in a Japanese restaruant, admired a blue Dodgers jersey on the rack and said she intended to buy it. Even after she looked at the price of 77,000 yen — about $510.

"Very expenisve," she said, muttering about how she’d work the spending around her payday. She said she works wearing a kimono, a wrap-around garment and Japan’s traditional dress. She said the jersey would offer a "different look."

"I saw baseball in person for the first time at the World Baseball Classic last year at the Tokyo Dome," she said. "I respect Ohtani so much for being the best and also such a good person."

She said she was so taken that she flew to Los Angeles shortly thereafter to see Ohtani play with Angels.

Fans seem willing to pay to be outfitted like Ohtani with demand soaring and profits to divvy up. A store employee said a blue Dodgers cap with a script "D" above the bill — being worn frequently in spring training — nearly sold out in a few days.

"They talk about Ohtani on Japanese news every day," Suzuki, the assistant manager, said. "We can’t think of what business would be like without him."

Ditto for MLB and the Dodgers.
cbca2cc9-25cc-5f1e-bbeb-41b0a7d2b6fe fnc Fox News fox-news/world/world-regions/japan fox-news/topic/associated-press fox-news/world/world-regions/asia fox-news/sports/mlb fox-news/person/shohei-ohtani fox-news/sports/mlb/los-angeles-dodgers fox-news/sports/mlb/los-angeles-angels fox-news/sports article Mon, 18 Mar 2024 20:44:31 -0400 https://www.foxnews.com/health/elon-musk-reveals-takes-ketamine-denies-abusing-drug-should-keep-taking-it https://www.foxnews.com/health/elon-musk-reveals-takes-ketamine-denies-abusing-drug-should-keep-taking-it Elon Musk reveals why he takes ketamine, denies abusing the drug: ‘I should keep taking it’ Elon Musk uses ketamine to boost his mental health, the billionaire said in a video interview that was streamed on YouTube on Monday. stated, "From what I’ve seen with friends, ketamine taken occasionally is a better option."

Fox News Digital reached out to Musk for further comment about his widely reported interview on Monday.

Ketamine, a hallucinogenic anesthetic drug, was first approved in 1970 as an anesthetic for use by medical doctors and veterinarians.

Since then, ketamine has been shown to have powerful effects on the brain, particularly for people suffering from depression, according to Dr. William Prueitt, director of the Ketamine Treatment Program at Silver Hill Hospital in Connecticut.

"There’s growing evidence that ketamine can be very effective for patients with depression who have not responded to other treatments," Prueitt told Fox News Digital.

Ketamine is best suited for patients with moderate to severe depression who haven’t responded to other types of treatments or therapy, the doctor said.

CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR OUR HEALTH NEWSLETTER

"These patients have what we call treatment-resistant depression, meaning they’ve tried at least two antidepressants (at sufficient doses and durations) that just haven’t worked," he said.

Ketamine works differently from traditional antidepressants — it targets different neurotransmitters in the brain, Prueitt noted.

"That is one proposed reason why it’s often successful where other medications are not," he said.

The drug can be administered in multiple ways, but the primary methods are by nasal spray (esketamine) or IV infusions (ketamine).

"Ketamine provides rapid relief of symptoms, sometimes in as little as a few weeks," said Prueitt.

"Patients can experience improved mood, renewed optimism and reduced negative thoughts."

When administered in an "appropriate treatment setting" with an experienced medical team, ketamine is generally "very safe," according to Prueitt.

There can be risks, however, when it’s given in unsupervised circumstances.

"Patients should not self-medicate and should only receive ketamine treatments after an appropriate <a "Every civilian death in Gaza is tragic. But Israel is not targeting civilians. It is targeting Hamas. The moment Hamas releases the hostages and surrenders is the moment this heartbreaking war ends. This has been true since the Hamas attacks of October 7th."

The signatories continued, "The use of words like ‘occupation’ to describe an indigenous Jewish people defending a homeland that dates back thousands of years, and has been recognized as a state by the United Nations, distorts history. It gives credence to the modern blood libel that fuels a growing anti-Jewish hatred around the world, in the United States, and in Hollywood. "Right now, we stand here as men who refute their Jewishness and the Holocaust being hijacked by an occupation, which has led to conflict for so many innocent people - whether the victims of October the 7th in Israel or the ongoing attack on Gaza - all the victims of this dehumanization, how do we resist?"

Glazer's words were repudiated by one of his film's executive producers, Danny Cohen, who said last week, "I just fundamentally disagree with Jonathan."

"It’s really important to recognize it’s upset a lot of people and a lot of people feel upset and angry about it. And I understand that anger frankly," Cohen said on the Unholy podcast. "The war and the continuation of the war is the responsibility of Hamas, a genocidal terrorist organization which continues to hold and abuse the hostages, which doesn’t use its tunnels to protect the innocent civilians of Gaza but uses it to hide themselves and allow Palestinians to die. I think the war is tragic and awful and the loss of civilian life is awful, but I blame Hamas for that."

HOLOCAUST SURVIVORS' FOUNDATION CONDEMNS OSCAR WINNER EQUATING ISRAEL WITH HAMAS: ‘MORALLY INDEFENSIBLE’

The speech was also condemned in an open letter by The Holocaust Survivors’ Foundation.

"I watched in anguish Sunday night when I heard you use the platform of the Oscars ceremony to equate Hamas's maniacal brutality against innocent Israelis with Israel's difficult but necessary self-defense in the face of Hamas's ongoing barbarity. Your comments were factually inaccurate and morally indefensible," Holocaust Survivors’ Foundation USA president and 94-year-old Holocaust survivor David Schaecter wrote to Glazer.

"The ‘occupation’ of which you speak has nothing to do with the Holocaust. The Jewish people's existence and right to live in the land of Israel predates the Holocaust by hundreds of years. Today's political and geographic landscape is the direct result of wars started by past Arab leaders who refused to accept Jewish people as their neighbors in our historic homeland. Now that several Arab countries are making peace with Israel because security and prosperity are better for all people, Iran and its terrorist proxies started another war, abetted by too many, who, through naïveté or malice, blame ‘the occupation.’"

"Worse is that you chose to use the Holocaust to validate your personal opinion. You made a Holocaust movie and won an Oscar. And you are Jewish. Good for you. But it is disgraceful for you to presume to speak for the six million Jews, including one and half million children, who were murdered solely because of their Jewish identity," Schaecter continued. "And it is disgraceful for you to presume to speak for those of us who personally saw the world stand silent as our mothers, father, brothers, sisters, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins were murdered. We actually had nowhere to go - no possible place for refuge. No country would accept us even though world leaders knew full well that thousands of Jews were being murdered every day. There was no Jewish nation to which we could flee. You should be ashamed of yourself for using Auschwitz to criticize Israel."

"The Zone of Interest" offers a harrowing depiction of a Nazi commander's family living next to the atrocities of the Auschwitz concentration camps. The film earned five Oscar nominations including Best Picture, and Glazer himself was nominated for Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay.
152e54fe-d092-588d-b165-ea6d353b79a1 fnc Fox News fox-news/entertainment/events/oscars fox-news/topic/anti-semitism fox-news/world/world-regions/israel fox-news/us/religion/judaism fox-news/media fox-news/media article Mon, 18 Mar 2024 20:36:22 -0400 https://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/rust-armorer-challenges-involuntary-manslaughter-conviction-requests-new-trial https://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/rust-armorer-challenges-involuntary-manslaughter-conviction-requests-new-trial 'Rust' armorer challenges involuntary manslaughter conviction, requests new trial Attorneys for "Rust" armorer Hannah Gutierrez Reed are challenging her involuntary manslaughter conviction.
