I found this article this morning on the Top 10 places to live  I thought it was appropriate since one of the Top 10 is in the state that I’m in right now!  (But I won’t give away where it “placed”)

They looked at the obvious reasons around why it’s a great city to live in, but also the “environmental highlights like good air and water quality as well as recycling programs.

Take a peak and see if your “hood” is in there!

Well, I can’t seem to shake this cold.  It’s turning into something in my chest and I might have to get to the Doc’s this weekend.  What a drag!  Ever been sick on vacation?  Do you feel gypped when this happens?  I kinda do…

At any rate, we managed to get outside for an hour or so to re-visit the croc in the swamp!  He did not disappoint!  We also found some little mud-crabs.  Plus, we have a few little lizards that like to hang out on the porch, so we’ve been taking lots of pics of them as well.   I will post those later on.  I’ve been hiding under a blanket on the upstairs porch trying to at least enjoy the sunshine, and read a book…

I saw that you guys have been posting 10 words that best describe yourself, so here goes:

Hello everyone!

We had a wonderful day today - despite the stuffy nose.   The weather was perfect for kayaking, so we headed out to the marshes.  I’ve never been kayaking before, and it certainly took some patience along with a great deal of balance!  I wasn’t able to take too many photos (the balance thing…) – so here’s what I managed on my little camera (my husband as a much fancier camera than moi).  I also found  a picture of my birthday pancakes last Friday - so that’s what you’re also seeing inbetween outdoor shots!  Mmmmm….pancakes…

I must admit I am pretty tired after a long day, so I’m going to sign off here.  Glad you guys are still visiting and commenting.  I am so pleased at the crew we have here.  I was jumping onto some of the other blogs last night, and some of them seem to be kind of out of control!  So I am thankful we have such a courteous and thoughtful bunch.  I hope we can keep it this way! :)  I also like the fact that you guys start off with what the weather is like where you live!  Very cool.   I look forward to reading everything you comment on each day.

Hello again!  Thought I would post a few more pictures this evening.  We never made it kayaking…it was too cold and windy, and I have come down with a nasty cold!  What a drag.  I suppose if I had to pick a place to be “under the weather”  it would be here in Bald Head.  We did some walking on the beach last night, and I was mesmerized by all the colorful shells that wash up on shore.  I took a couple of these pictures - the one of my husband walking back to the parking lot carrying his sandals…he reminded me of a little boy walking ahead of me.  And I also took the one of the sunset.  My husband said it was “the best of the bunch!”   Yahoo!

Sunny- I did see “Old Baldy” (the famous lighthouse here) today - and managed to climb up all the steps to the tippy-top!  It was pretty cool - you can see all of the island from the view up there.  I also did a little shopping at the conservancy where all the proceeds go to helping keep the wildlife healthy and alive here on the Island.   I’m a big fan of turtles, so I bought a few souvenirs that reflect my soft spot for the cute little guys- including a t-short that says “I’m on turtle time!” :)  I might have to wear that every weekend in New York.

Did I mention that there are no cars or trucks here on the Island?    Everyone gets around in golf carts which is so brilliant!  I told my husband yesterday I was going to write a letter to Mayor Bloomberg asking him if we can do the same in Manhattan!  It would solve so many problems including the high cost of gas… You plug your your little electric cart in at night, and you’re ready to rock the next day.  There would be no crazy cab drivers and I think it would make the streets so much safer.   It was kind of a joke at first, but the more I think about it the better it sounds!  Maybe everyone should be cruising in carts! 

The weather here has been pretty chilly at night (in the 50s) and then low 70s during the day, so the sweatshirts are getting alot more use than I had originally planned.   And now with this crappy cold, I’m layering up and drinking a lot of tea…(instead of that chardonnay which I miss already)

Anyhow, still reading all of your posts with lots of interesting medical advice!  We’ve got a lot of strong, resilient people on this blog.   (I think we all share a lot in common!  ;)  Luis, I also enjoyed reading your post about how you came to your decision on who to vote for this coming election.   This has got to be the longest election year ever!!!  (At least it seems that way…)

Hey Everyone!  We’re having a wonderful time so far here on Bald Head Island.  I’m just starting to relax now…it took me a good 36 hours to start to wind down.  I guess New York does that to a person, and the tornado outbreak had me still into “weather mode” as well.  My husband kept reminding me we were on “Island TIme now” — I guess it was his way of saying “time to forget about work”…

We did have some pretty wild weather here  all day yesterday — heavy downpours and windy conditions.  We were under a tornado watch for a good chunk of the afternoon.  Thankfully nothing really manifested here, although I was a little bit worried, and ready to go into emergency mode if needed.

The storm moved on, and brought us clear skies, and cooler than average temperatures (which I love–).  We went on a bird-watching tour this morning, but I have to admit my husband and I were a little more interested in the land creatures!  (i.e. - gators, snakes and lizards!)  Here’s a peak at some of the Critters we caught (and some beautiful wild flowers)…

Let me know what you think.  We’re going kayaking tomorrow which I am super excited for!  Right now though, I’m sipping a chardonnay and getting hungry for some hamburgers on the BBQ tonight.

P.S. - I am reading all your comments too — please know that - I just may not respond very quickly since I am on “Island time!”  (It’s starting to sink in…)

Horrible news out of Missouri this morning with 19 deaths and dozens of injuries from yesterday’s severe weather. 40 tornadoes were reported according to the National Weather Service from Oklahoma through Kansas and Missouri and then into Arkansas.
